What is Phantom Power?

Certain types of microphones require power to be supplied to them in order to work. Generally speaking this is the case with Condenser mics. 48V phantom power is sent to the mic via an XLR-XLR cable from a dedicated source such a mixer or mic pre-amp. Essentially, the XLR-XLR cable carries both the power to the mic and the audio signal from the mic.
